History

In the fall of 2008 Chris Daviduik transitioned from his former musical project in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and, drawing upon the inspirations of the moment, formed the aptly named Sexy Mathematics. Shortly thereafter the band entered the studio with drummer Amber Kraft (Ultimate Power Duo, Color Field) and began recording what would eventually bear the title Integration EP and be released in September of 2009. A collection of six songs written during the previous few years the Integration EP combines thick layers of guitars reminiscent of The Smashing Pumpkin’s earlier work and modern dance rock popularized by groups such as of Montreal and Cut Copy.

With EP in hand, a group of performers were assembled featuring Chris Daviduik on vocals and guitar, Liz Syrnick on synth, Dylan Smith on drums and Brandon Mellish on bass. After several successful shows around Saskatoon, sharing the stage with acts such as The Junior Pantherz, Spirits, The Balconies, We Were Lovers, Jeanette Stewart (Jeans Boots, Slow Down Molasses), Royal Canoe and The Birthday Cakes, Sexy Mathematics embarked on an Eastern Canadian tour including stops in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

Upon returning to Saskatoon the band re-entered the studio in the fall of 2010 to record their first full length album. Enlisting the help once again of recording engineer Jordan Smith, who oversaw the Integration EP, the songs were captured over the course of a couple months and mastered early in 2011. The final title and artwork for the album was then decided in collaboration with the return of another friend, Gabriel Akinrinmade, who developed the artwork and music videos for the Integration EP.

Finally with everything in its right place Chris Daviduik ventured across the Canadian winter landscape and settled Sexy Mathematics in Toronto with new band members, Tab Forsyth on synth, Sean Hodges on drums and Brian Costa on bass, to chart a new course driven by the force of their new album Future Nights. Building upon themes from the debut, Future Nights is an elaborate conception of melodies intertwined with nuanced rhythms crafting a psychological sculpture of youth.
