Anyone can contribute. Share, edit, or browse pages related to Canadian music.

Welcome to the Canadian Music Wiki, an online resource created by CBC Radio 3 and Amanda Ash from the University of British Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of MITACS Accelerate.

This project is dedicated to using collaborative and social media to enrich Canada's music scene by creating a comprehensive guide to Canadian music. We welcome your contributions.

The Canadian Music Wiki is a wiki, meaning you can edit nearly any page at any time. This wiki strives to encourage artists, media and fans alike to contribute their knowledge to this digital resource. We hope it will serve as Canada's hub for everything music-related. So don't be shy; head over to the Getting Started page and learn how you can contribute. It's easy and fun!

Here are a few brief guidelines to follow:

1. Please keep a neutral point-of-view when contributing. The wiki pages aren't for opinion or discussion. They're for facts, biographical information and basic knowledge. However, we encourage you to click on the "discussion" links on each page if you want to start a conversation or share your thoughts. We're sure others would love to hear what you have to say!

2. If you see something is wrong—whether it is grammatical, factual, or formatting—be bold and fix it. This is YOUR wiki. Be proud of it.

3. Please don't vandalize. It's really not worth it.

4. The Canadian Music Wiki is free content.

This site is a beta version. If you have any comments or suggestions to improve this wiki, please email amanda_ash@cbcradio3.com.

Longwalkshortdock: Hell, hair and high expectations
"I want someone who grabs my soul and sets my heart on fire." Longwalkshortdock, "High Expectations," Casual Tea When you see Longwalkshortdock perform, it's easy to get wrapped up in the ecstasy and exuberance of the moment. Vancouver transplant Dave King’s curly mane explodes around his lanky frame as he flails, headbangs and rocks out, his grin sneaking out and stretching the outlines of his stern but mirthful goatee. Not only is King a joy to watch, his beats are unerringly raunchy, [...]

Movers and shakers in the Aboriginal community are gathering in Vancouver on Friday to honour those who have blazed trails in their lives and careers.  It's the 19th annual National Aboriginal Achievement Awards and among those being honoured this year are actor Adam Beach , businessman Victor Buffalo, Dr. Janet Smylie and writer Richard Wagamese . During the gala benefit at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre musicians will perform for the recipients including blues rocker Derek Miller , songstress [...]
    The Encyclopedia of Fake Bands
It’s one thing to love real bands, but what about fake bands? You know, the bands that inspired you to learn to play guitar (Zit Remedy), or helped you figure out how to spell Albuquerque (thank you,  Partridge Family ). Like cover tunes, fake bands featured in movies and on TV introduced generations of kids to real bands and genres – or, at least, I hope '90s youth picked up a Violent Femmes   album (or three) after watching Ethan Hawke’s fake band Hey That’s My Bike cover the Femmes’ [...]
Q&A: Rodney DeCroo releases “Allegheny” - a new departure: Part 1
Rodney DeCroo, a singer-songwriter, poet and sometime actor, is releasing his sixth album, Allegheny .  DeCroo has called Vancouver home for some time now. Originally from a Baptist home near the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania, and by way of Cranbrook, B.C. at age 17, DeCroo has had a long and challenging journey – both personal and creative. I’ve enjoyed DeCroo’s earlier stuff for its grit and often original takes on country and folk music, but this is something else: gripping, compelling [...]

Eamon McGrath Details 'Young Canadians,' Announces Canadian Tour
Eamon McGrath has already performed his forthcoming Young Canadians in full in concert, but now the rock-loving Toronto-based songwriter is getting ready to release the real thing. The 12-song collection is due out April 10 via White Whale Records. A press release notes that this patriotic LP was "conceived during a coffee and Baileys-fuelled writing session after Sidney Crosby's winning goal that signalled Canada's 2010 gold medal victory against the USA." The resulting songs are filled [...]
Mount Eerie Announces 'Clear Moon,' Preps Companion Album for 2012 Release
When Phil Elverum is not writing possibly the most boring tweets ever, the Pacific Northwest musician sometimes likes to write and record songs. The former Microphones mastermind hasn't released a proper LP with his current project Mount Eerie since Wind's Poem in 2009 (that's not including the rarities collection Song Islands Vol. 2 ), but that will soon change, since we can expect two new Mount Eerie albums before the year is out. The first of those two is called Clear Moon , and it [...]
Humans Announce 'Traps' EP, Share New Single
Vancouver party-starting dance duo Humans have given us a couple of low-key releases in the last couple of years with The End and Avec Mes Mecs . And while they have yet to release a full-length, the band have just unveiled another new EP. Entitled Traps , it's due out March 6 on Hybridity Music. According to a press release, Humans' latest release "emerges with obvious maturation, each track carrying a depth of sound, evolved production, and focused vision, while never straying from their [...]
Mark Ronson and Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt Join Forces for Ballet Score
Whether working with Amy Winehouse, the Black Lips or Rufus Wainwright, producer extraordinaire Mark Ronson has had a handle on pop and rock markets for quite some time, but the artist will be going more highbrow with an upcoming ballet he's putting together with Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt. NME  reports that Ronson and Wyatt are working on nine new songs for an as-yet-untitled piece to be performed by the UK's Royal Ballet. The production will premiere in April at the Royal Opera House in [...]
WTF: Charlatans' Tim Burgess and Kellogg's Team Up for Totes Amazeballs Cereal
Proving the bizarre power of the Twitterverse, a joke Charlatans singer Tim Burgess had made online about launching his own cereal has led to a real partnership between the Britpop vet and breakfast food titans Kellogg's. If that nugget of information weren't enough to blow your mind, the morning-time meal is called Totes Amazeballs. An interview with NME  had Burgess explaining that the odd team-up is indeed for real, and he seems just as surprised that things came together as we are. [...]

Elephant & Castle feat. tUnE-YarDs – “En Memoria” is so trippy, man
If you’ve been hankering to relive your past psychedelic excursion into oblivion where you finally found out what people are made of (namely that we are all actually just CGI replicas of God’s image), then you might want to check out Elephant & Castle’s newest video for “En Memoria.” The video is a festival of colors created using Lightwave, which is sort of about creation, but is also just an excuse for you and your friends to contemplate lyfe. The disembodied voice of tUnE-YarDs' [...]
WATCH: A teaser clip for Odd Future's new Adult Swim show 'Loiter Squad' has surfaced!
Whoever gave Odd Future a television show is either going to get very rich or very fired. Loiter Squad is a sketch comedy series produced by Dickhouse Productions (of Jackass fame) for Adult Swim, and stars all members of the LA-based rap collective. Below you can watch an 18-second teaser in which Tyler, the Creator (as his character Young Nigga) argues in hashtags with Domo Genesis in a courtroom. It’s goofy and laced with expletives in typical OFWGKTA fashion. You should also [...]
MP3 ROUNDUP: Grimes, White Hills, Gold & Youth, Humans
Grimes – “Angel” I thought it was impossible for things to be ‘too short’ in a world of food tweets and kitten videos, but “Angel,” the bonus track from Grimes’ new album Visions , is too short. The wonderful piece of pop perfection is sweet while it lasts, which is less than 90 seconds. Insert sex joke. White Hills – “Pads of Light” White Hills describe themselves as “space rock,” and on their new single it’s easy to see why. “Pads of Light” sounds like [...]
Florence and the Machine to tour U.S., everywhere else
Breakout British indie pop songstress Florence and the Machine expanded her bid for global conquest today by adding U.S. dates to her seemingly neverending tour. Will this be the tour where “The Machine” will finally show its face? If so, I expect that it will be a gruesome and horrifying spectacle that willprobably look a lot like THIS , except the stadium will be filled with adoring, unarmed and defenseless fans. If you're still willing to play games with your own mortality, visit the [...]
    Kreayshawn poops; details still emerging
While details are only beginning to surface, it has been reported that Oakland-based female rapper Kreayshawn – real name Natassia Gail Zolot – poops. The rising artist, known for her in-you-face music and I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude, was apparently very in-your-face about a recent poo she dropped in San Francisco hotel room on New Years Eve, and even more I-don’t-give-a-fuck regarding details of said poo. Prior to making boom-boom, Kreayshawn reportedly told GQ , “I have to POOP.” [...]
